White whale puts on a show (6 Sept 2012)

Cruise Whitsundays passengers were extremely lucky to spot a white humpback whale, known as 'Migaloo' on their journey home from the Great Barrier Reef. Read more >>

 

 

First whales of the season spotted by Cruise Whitsundays (22 May 2012)

Four humpback whales were spotted in the balmy Whitsunday waters on Tuesday, 22 May. They were the first reported whales of the season to be seen in these waters and were spotted by staff and guests on board Cruise Whitsundays vessel 'Seaflight'. The vessel was making her way back to Airlie Beach from Knuckle Reef Lagoon when the whales appeared, including a mother and calf! Check out photos of the whales on our Facebook page >>

Cruise Whitsunday’s 7th Birthday week was capped off in style when they took out two major awards at the annual Whitsundays Tourism Awards. The company was the recipient of the 'Major Tour & Transport Operator' award and the 'Major Attractions' award for its Knuckle Reef pontoon operation on the Great Barrier Reef.

A pod of humpback whales this week astounded passengers on board Cruise Whitsundays’ vessel, Seaflight, when they surrounded the boat for an hour between the Great Barrier Reef and Whitsunday Islands.

Early Start to whale watch season (April 2010)

Humpback Whales and other species come all the way from Antarctica to calve and breed in the warm sheltered waters of the Whitsunday Islands. The Humpbacks migrate an average of 2,500km from polar waters to their tropical breeding grounds, undertaking some of the longest migrations in the animal kingdom.

So far there have already been a few sightings in the Whitsunday area and this year, a higher number of whales are expected to pass through the Whitsundays than in previous years - make sure keep an eye out for these magnificent mammals when you're onboard one of our vessels.

GBRMPA (Great Barrier Reef Marina Park Authority) have put strict guidelines in place to protect the whales including vessels not being allowed within 100m of the whales and numbers are increasing as a result of this.
