It’s the much anticipated return we’ve all been waiting for, today marks the return of daily departures to Hardy Reef for Cruise Whitsundays to the newly refurbished ‘Heart Pontoon’.
Cruise Whitsundays has two permanently moored pontoons ‘Reefworld’ and ‘Heart’ pontoon located at Hardy Reef and late March both encountered 11m waves and strong winds during Tropical Cyclone Debbie. The Cruise Whitsundays maintenance team have repaired and refurbished ‘Heart’ pontoon ready for guests today.
The refurbishment of ‘Reefworld’ pontoon will continue over the coming months. Cruise Whitsundays Managing Director Nick Hortle said “Reefworld was already planned for a refurbishment in July before the cyclone occurred, this has now been brought forward and maintenance will continue to enhance the existing structure,” he said.
Tropical Cyclone Debbie hasn’t scared off the main star attractions at Hardy Reef, the beloved marine life; Chip the Turtle, George the Queensland Grouper and Wally and Maggie, the two Maori Wrasses have all been seen by dive crew around the pontoon. Even the resident Nemo family have been found alive and well. Guests can still expect to snorkel amongst the colourful corals and abundant marine life and enjoy a newly refurbished pontoon.
